Weekly Message - 31st May
Monday night was a very full evening. One of the most satisfying jobs for a President is the induction of a new member, and once again I would like to welcome Kylie Williams, whose vocation is Primary School Teaching. Kylie is the current host Mum for Jonas, who returns to Germany in July. Kylie was an exchange student herself and is also mother of Katie Williams, our exchange student to Brazil last year.
It was great to have Assistant Governor Sivaraj back for the evening, as work commitments have prevented him attending recently. Sivaraj was accompanied by his sister, brother-in-law and two nephews.
Thanks to Jonas for his report on the exchange student safari, which covered thousands of kilometres through NSW, Vic, SA, NT and Qld. Highlight for Jonas was the rainforest experience in Nth Qld. Jonas has now probably seen more of our country than many of us.
Chris Robison gave a brief report of his and Leonie’s recent trip to Japan. They started in Nagasaki on the island of Kyushsu, spending time with their son who teaches English at local schools as a participant in the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) programme. They then travelled by train to Honshu visiting other interesting places. Chris is happy to provide a more detailed talk about his trip at a later date.
Many thanks to the troops who helped outside Woolworths and Kmart on Sunday, collecting for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal – Wendy, Simon, Rob, Peter Mc, Peter K, Greg and Jenny. Over $2,300 was collected.
